India’s drone industry is projected to increase the country’s manufacturing potential to $23 billion by 2030. The estimate comes from a recent report by Nexgen, citing rising demand across sectors like defence, agriculture, logistics, and infrastructure.

Shift After Operation Sindoor

The report notes a growing use of drones in security operations. India’s use of drones during Operation Sindoor, after the Pahalgam terror incident, marks a broader shift in how drones are being deployed in the country, especially in defence-related applications.

Nexgen’s findings are based on a survey of 150 drone companies across 15 cities. About 40% of the respondents identified agriculture and precision farming as the primary areas expected to drive drone demand by 2030, following defence.

Drones Use in Agriculture Expanding

As per news reports, the global agricultural drone market is expected to reach $5.89 billion by 2030. In India, drones are being used in areas like crop monitoring, theft prevention, and protection from wildlife in farming zones.

Drone International Expo in Delhi

To support the sector’s momentum, Delhi will host the Drone International Expo 2025 from July 31 to August 1, 2025. The event is being organised by Nexgen Exhibitions and will feature participants from countries including Russia, Taiwan, Canada, Ukraine, and India.

The expo will showcase technologies from more than 50 drone manufacturers, both domestic and international. The event is expected to highlight innovations in areas such as defence tech, agri-tech, and logistics.

Other Sectoral Trends

20% of surveyed companies said drones could boost rural development in the next 5 years by enabling smart agriculture. Another 15% pointed to the growing relevance of drones in logistics and infrastructure projects.

Conclusion

With multiple industries adopting drone technology, India’s drone ecosystem is expanding. If current trends continue, the sector may play a significant role in the country’s future manufacturing growth.
