The Delhi government has extended its current Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy until March 31, 2026, or until a new version is approved. Reportedly, the decision was taken during a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Tuesday.
The draft of the new EV policy is set to go through a wider public consultation process. According to Transport Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh, this will take time, and the extension will allow for stakeholder discussions to be completed.
The consultation will involve citizens, industry experts, environmental groups, private companies, and academic institutions. The aim is to gather feedback before finalising Delhi’s next EV policy framework.
Key areas under review include expanding EV charging infrastructure and revising subsidies and waivers. The government will also look into systems for safe battery and e-waste disposal and clarify roles between public and private sectors.
Delhi’s original EV Policy was launched in August 2020 during the Previous government. It aimed to make 25% of new vehicle registrations electric by 2024. The policy ended in August 2023, but has been extended multiple times since.

As per the draft, the new policy will focus on electrifying mass segments like 2-wheelers, 3-wheelers, buses, and goods carriers. It also proposes a series of financial incentives to support adoption.
Women buyers may receive subsidies up to ₹36,000 for electric 2-wheelers. For other 2-wheelers, a purchase incentive of ₹10,000 per kWh, capped at ₹30,000, is being considered under the draft.
The policy was earlier expected to roll out by July 2025, as stated by the Transport Minister in June. The consultation process has now been delayed in its finalisation.
The extension gives the government time to complete consultations and review proposals before implementing the next phase of Delhi’s electric vehicle framework.
